J Yard Steps Into His New Era With The New Twenty
Some interviews feel like work, and some feel like catching up with family — my sit-down with J Yard was absolutely the latter. See not only are we partners we are actually born on the same day..same year… and just hours apart! From the moment he walked in, you could tell he’s stepping into this new chapter with intention. His latest project, The New Twenty, isn’t just an album title; it’s a mindset. He broke down how this body of work represents clarity, and the grip-you-by-the-collar honesty that only comes from living real life. The energy was confident, bright, and refreshingly grounded and was the type of conversation that reminds you why you love talking to artists in the first place.
We went back to the early days too — when he started out in a group, sharpening his pen, finding his voice, and learning how to move in a room full of creatives. He talked about how stepping out solo wasn’t about ego; it was about purpose. Knowing he had more to say, more to express, and more to prove to himself than anyone else. That transition shaped him, toughened him, and ultimately put him right where he needed to be.
But the moment that hit the deepest was when he opened up about the loss of his brother. You could hear the weight in his voice — but also the fire it lit. J Yard isn’t running from the pain; he’s channeling it. Turning it into something meaningful and something forward-moving. As a father, as an artist and as a man, he’s carrying that love with him into every verse. By the end of the interview, one thing was crystal clear: this new era isn’t just a rebrand — it’s a rebirth. And if The New Twenty is any indication, he’s about to step into the brightest stretch of his career yet.
As for the project itself, the balance is crazy! The lyrics are upfront and the choice of production is extremely complementary. Make sure you check out this amazing body of work!
