SWEATA arrived at studio with plenty to discuss. This  singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, has gone from  being mentored by legendary producer 9th Wonder to  beginning a new chapter with Usher and L.A. Reid. Despite an increasingly impressive résumé, SWEATA carries himself with such a quiet confidence it became my biggest takeaway.

Throughout the interview, SWEATA was open, thoughtful and incredibly easy to talk to. There was a slight shyness to him, but once the conversation turned  to music, I quickly realized how much he has studied his craft. We talked about discovering his ability as a musician, his education, as well as developing SWEATA the artist.

He is part of a younger generation that understands moving the genre forward doesn't require abandoning what made it great in the first place. From his call to “bring back bridges”, to our conversation about musicianship and traditional R&B elements, its clear his appreciation for the genre is intense.

SWEATA trusted The Play It Cool Show with the first premiere of his new record, “Did a Number.”  I'm genuinely grateful that he chose our conversation as the place to introduce the song. By the end of the interview, the talent was obvious, but so was something equally important: SWEATA knows what kind of artist he wants to become. With musicianship, songwriting, and the  legendary guidance behind him…the price is on the way up.
