Record Store Day 2026: Support Your Local Sound.

Record Store Day began in 2008 as a way to bring attention back to independent record stores. So at a time when digital music was taking over , a small group of store owners and artists came together with a simple idea—celebrate the culture. they wanted to rejuvenate the community, and the experience of buying music in a physical space. What started as a niche event has since grown into a global tradition, with exclusive releases, live performances, with fans that want to be part of something real.

Today, Record Store Day represents more than just limited-edition vinyl—it reflects a shift in how people value music. In an era dominated by streaming, vinyl has made a powerful comeback, with sales continuing to grow year after year. In the U.S. alone sales have surpassed $1 billion in 2025 —marking the format’s 19th straight year of growth.  There’s something intentional about putting a record on, reading the liner notes, and hearing an album the way it was meant to be heard. It slows everything down—and in a fast-moving world, that matters.

But at the end, Record Store Day is about support. It’s about showing up for the local shops that keep music culture alive in our neighborhoods. These stores aren’t just retail spaces—they’re gathering spots, discovery hubs, and living archives of sound. Supporting your local record store isn’t just a one-day thing… it’s a way to keep the music community spinning long after the record stops.

Myself & MISS PAT ( co-founder of VP Records)

This was RSD 2024 at VP Records in Queens NY. The block was on fire with music, food and smiling faces. The highlight was getting to stand toe to toe with a living legend. She was sooo nice to me I didn’t even want to touch her! I remember saying “it’s ok handsome you won’t break me”

This is what the power of music can do!
