In my first AT THE COOL TABLE interview in 3 years I sat with west coast singer / songwriter Jessica Jolia, and it was a meaningful reminder of how powerful a genuine exchange can be. It was also a high blood pressure moment of technical difficulties but I REFUSED TO LET THAT RUIN IT. I had been a fan for years and was ready to trade a kidney to interview this incredible creator.
Jessica is a remarkably grounded and thoughtful writer and performer. Known for her vocal strength and genre-defying sound, she brings a quiet intensity to her work. From the outset of our conversation, what stood out most was her ability to speak with clarity about who she is—not only as a musician, but as a woman, a creative, and a thinker.
We explored her background, including how early musical and family influences would help mold her sound. Jessica spoke candidly about the intersection of discipline and instinct in her creative process, and how she has learned to trust her artistic intuition over time.
Beyond the music itself, Jolia offered thoughtful insight into navigating the music industry. Her music studies background speaks volumes about her commitment to understanding the business behind the art.
What I appreciated most was the ease and openness in which we spoke. While several of the questions I had prepared guided the discussion, much of the conversation unfolded naturally. We spoke about vulnerability in songwriting, to the internal balance required to keep authenticity in a digital world. Lastly I put her feet to the fire in a game where she would choose between some of her favorite entertainers!
Jessica is more than a voice—she is a presence. In a culture that often prioritizes speed and spectacle, she chooses to lead with substance, thoughtfulness, and most importantly, GREAT SONGS.
It was a privilege to speak with her, and I look forward to seeing how her journey continues to unfold.
