This post was written from a 10 year old perspective. One of my biggest neighborhood inspirations and greatest groups of all time FINALLY HAS THEIR MUSIC AVAILABLE ON STREAMING PLATFORMS. After being in a 30 year dispute with Tommy Boy Records De La Soul music will at last touch Apple Music, Spotify and other music listening platforms. According to the members this dispute stems from Warner Music being reluctant to clear samples and renegotiate contracts. The samples used in De La Soul's music were only cleared for physical media distribution; the wording of their contracts is not vague enough to enable them to distribute the music digitally on unforeseen technologies. Streaming technologies weren’t around when they signed making it difficult to iron out the new particulars. On June 4, 2021, music company Reservoir Media acquired Tommy Boy for USD$100 million opening up new possibilities. The trio's first six albums would be released on audio streaming just in time for the 34th anniversary of their debut album 3 Feet High and Rising. With the recent loss of group member Trugoy it’s bitter sweet to know how hard and long (pause) they fought for only 2/3 of the group to enjoy…Go Stream De La Soul Now!!!
